Apple’s App Store has reached a staggering 10 billion downloads.

That is quite an achievement given that the App store is merely 3 years of age. On the flip side, the numbers aren’t surprising owing to the market penetration of iOS devices around the world. Of course, this number would also take into account of the numerous iBeer and iFart apps out there. So, 10 billion may not be a meaningful number to the skeptics.

Whichever way one looks at this gargantuan statistic, there is no denying that the App Store has set the bar for the online mobile application distribution model. The Android Marketplace maybe a close second and perhaps the Big G may be cooking up a few staggering figures of its own in time to come.
